The hard zinc distiller recovers 85-88% of the zinc that has been bound as hard zinc, with 99.9% purity. The furnace brings the hard zinc to evaporating temperature. Then the zinc forms on the standing retort on the outside of the furnace.

The pneumatically operated zinc dross grab is attached to the crane hook and can easily move in all directions. The opened grab basket dips into the zinc kettle, the big blades reach for the zinc dross at the bottom of the kettle and lift it out. Liquid zinc drops back to the bath. This is granted by the stable perforated sheets of the grab basket which is also well accessible from above. The last bit of liquid zinc can drop back to the bath, when the zinc dross in the grab is worked through by a spade.
